Higher-Order Thinking Skills Students Must Use

  • Analyze
  • Translate
  • Justify
  • Estimate
  • Simplify
  • Revise
  • Invent
  • Critique
  • Predict
  • Persuade
  • Evaluate
  • Solve
  • Defend

A Detailed Description of the Performance Assessment

Each performance assessment contains a detailed description of the assessment, which includes:

  • A detailed description of the end-product students must produce
  • Procedures students must follow
  • Timeliness for completing the assessment
  • Materials needed and other considerations

Grading Criteria Students Must Meet

Each performance assessment contains criteria for teachers to use in grading the assessment. The criteria include general expectations such as format, organization, and mechanics, and also specific expectations, those things directly related to the end-product of the assessment. From the grading criteria, teachers develop a rubric which is given to students to use as a guide in producing the end-product. The rubric is also used to grade the end-product.
