John D. Wessels, Ph.D.
Co-founder of Ten Sigma
Dr. Wessels is a noted researcher and proponent of innovative education. As executive director of the Iowa Success Network, he began studying the role education plays in developing graduates who are prepared to succeed in life. In 1991 he moved to northern Minnesota to further his work as the director of a consortium dedicated to implementing performance-based education. Today he continues his work as a researcher and consultant for Ten Sigma. He is author or coauthor of eight manuals related to performance-based education.
John received his Ph.D. in educational administration from Iowa State University in 1993. He understands why schools need to change and his dynamic presentations inspire teachers to restructure the way they teach.
Role
Dr. John Wessels provides a combination of motivational and practical techniques for implementing performance-based learning. He works well with K-12 staffs of any size and is also skilled at guiding administrators on the leadership process. His presentations include:
- Restructuring to become performance-based.
- Designing K-12 curriculum based on standards.
- Developing performance assessments.
- Teaching students the skills of productivity through rubrics.
- Managing school-wide and district-wide change.
- Enforcing and teaching positive and productive behavior.
