The purpose of these activities is to involve the students BETWEEN their Transition IEP meeting to:
- Complete the necessary tasks to make progress towards their postsecondary goals
- Take ownership of communication with the IEP team to get their support as needed
- Monitor their progress on the Transition task checklist between IEP meetings or graduation
After successfully completing the STAR training, the teacher can use STEP with all of their students for 1 year.
The teacher simply uses our software to assign a license to each of their students. The program can be completed by students as:

About Ten Sigma and
Kim Spudic – STAR Instructor
Ten Sigma is located in Minnesota and was founded in 1992 by Dr. John Wessels and Clyde Birkholz (both former teachers and school administrators) to provide educators with better and more useful tools to help them educate their students.
Dr. Wessels studied education-related research and worked with educators to determine what's working and what's not, and then used that information to develop practical, usable products that aim to share the best practices in education with a wider audience.
Eventually, Dr. Wessels partnered with cmERDC in Minnesota to help advance his vision and develop additional products and software.
In 2022, Ten Sigma was purchased by Kim Spudic (M.A.Ed.) and Tom Spudic (B.S.Ed.) both who have been working with the company for many years and live in Minnesota) with the goal of continuing to advance the Ten Sigma vision started by Dr. Wessels.
Our mission is to bridge the gap between educational theory and the day-to-day realities of the classroom. To do this, we provide parents, schools, and school districts with practical tools to teach, assess, and ensure students make a successful transition to adult life!
The STAR Program is taught by Kim Spudic (M.A.Ed.), who has been a Special Educator for over 30 years and is a Transition expert.
The STAR Transition Training is completed online. There are 8 Transition Training Modules, which can be completed in approximately 8 hours.
After purchasing a license(s), you will receive an email with your access to the STAR training dashboard.
The STAR program is the most comprehensive TEACHER Transition training available.
STAR is NOT student training!
- Combines Transition compliance and best practices.
- Guides and empowers students to take ownership throughout their Transition process including before, during and between their IEP meetings.
- Creates a consistent district Transition training program and system that engages students, teachers, parents and IEP teams.
The STAR Transition Training is completed online. There are 8 Transition Training Modules, which can be completed in approximately 8 hours.
After purchasing a license(s), you will receive an email with your access to the STAR training dashboard.
A teacher can earn 8 CEUs by successfully completing the following 3 items:
- Complete the STAR Pre-Assessment in Module 1
- Complete all 8 training modules
- Complete the STAR Post-Assessment with a score of at least 80%
After that, they will receive an email within 3 business days with their CEUs.
When someone finishes the STAR training and completes the following items, they will receive 1 license for a teacher to use the STEP program for 1 year with all their students:
- Complete the STAR Pre-Assessment in Module 1
- Complete all 8 training modules
- Complete the STAR Post-Assessment with a score of at least 80%
Then the teacher will receive access to our software dashboard where they can assign a license to each student.
When a license is assigned to a student, the student can complete the program using a fillable PDF or the teacher can print the pages and they can be completed by student.
